Shergar Cup

The Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup is named after the 1981 Derby winner Shergar and is staged at Ascot Racecourse each August. The inaugural Shergar Cup took place at Goodwood Racecourse in 1999 before shifting to Ascot racecourse the next year. The event is a team competition consisting of 6 races, all of which are handicaps. The 6 events cover all distances, including a 5 furlong Dash for 3 year olds, a 6 furlong Sprint for 3 year olds, a one mile 2 furlongs Classic for 3 year olds, a Mile challenge for 4 year olds and upwards, a mile and a half Challenge for 4 year olds and upwards and a 2 mile race for Stayers.
